I started in the trades at 19, recruited into a franchise painting company, where I learned the thing that separates a thriving contractor from a struggling one: it's systems, not talent.
I became the first-ever franchisee for Shack Shine, launched the Vancouver franchise, and helped build the operations manual by testing every system in my own operation first. I produced the franchisee video training course used across the network.
Then I founded Colour Craft Painting & Franchising and grew it to 4 locations and $8M+ in systemized revenue over 6 years. Every estimating template, every sales script, every hiring process. I built them all from scratch, on real jobs, with real crews.

Here's what nobody warned me about. The business was throwing off good cash, and I had no system for what to do with it. No financial structure. No investment framework. No plan beyond “keep grinding, figure it out later.” I was a good operator and a terrible investor, and for years I couldn't tell the difference, because the bank balance kept going up.
So I built the missing half. Over time I put together a rental real estate portfolio designed for long-term capital growth and preservation. I learned corporate structuring, holding company structures, and disciplined capital allocation. I stopped waiting on a someday exit and started building income that showed up whether or not I was on a job site.
